Keira at Three Months

Keira's third month was a great one! She started rolling over from front to back (April 18), and was consistantly sleeping through the night. Mom and dad finally got some quality rest! Keira continues to love her evening walks with mom. This month, Keira has begun to insist that she face outward in the baby carrier rather than facing mom. She loves to survey the neighborhood and keep track of what is going on. She gets really angry when I stop to talk to the neighbors, though. I guess Keira is not one for small talk!

Another exciting event this month was Keira's first yoga class (April 20)! Woo hoo! This was a huge moment for me. I have to admit that I hope Keira will enjoy yoga as much as I do, but I also don't want to push my interests onto her. We went to a mommy and me yoga class at Ginseng Yoga in South Park. It was pretty cool, but slightly stressful for me. First of all, I had to get out of the house early, which made the morning very rushed. The class was divided into three parts: mommy yoga, baby yoga, and mommy & baby yoga. She really enjoyed the baby yoga part, and the mommy&baby yoga part, but did not like waiting while I did the mommy yoga. Also, I had to breastfeed her for 15 minutes during the middle of the class. All in all, I think it was more trouble than it was worth (at least while she is this young), but it did make me realize how much I miss my own yoga practice.

At the end of Keira's third month I had a flare up. This meant that Keira needed to switch to formula so that I could be on the MS medication. It was a mighty battle to get Keira to take a bottle, but eventually she got used to it. Matt sat with her for an entire day offering her only the bottle. Once she overcame her resistance, she seemed perfectly happy with the bottle. I was devastated that I couldn't breastfeed her longer, but it just wasn't possible. I was really worried that we would lose our bond, but once we started bottle feeding I realized that was silly. I am grateful for the time that we did have to breastfeed. As Matt said, "If the worst thing in her life is that she was only breastfed for three months, that's a pretty damn good life."

I didn't have enough patience this month to get very good photos -- Hopefully we will have better luck next month!

Mother's Day 2011

My first Mother's Day! I was beyond excited. I was SO ready to have Matt and Keira pamper me and treat me like a queen. I wasn't disappointed! First, I got to sleep in, which was awesome. Then, Matt made me breakfast and cleaned up around the house. Finally, I got to have a massage at Zen Spa in Kensington.

We went to my mom's house for a combination Mother's Day/Matt's birthday dinner. I brought a cheesecake for Matt's birthday cake, and Keira and I gave him a video camera as a birthday gift.

Grandma playing with Keira. Keira looks so serious about her walker!
